I didn't hear too many dissenting comments, so I'm assuming everyone's still amenable to a Book Menage discussion of Stacy Horn's The Restless Sleep: Inside New York City's Cold Case Squad, paired with a Rick Geary graphic novel of historic true crime? I think the one I'd like to suggest is Geary's The Borden Tragedy.
So, please do read these two books, and feel free to email any questions you'd like to discuss during the Menage to me at realstory@tds.net. We'll start the discussion on Monday, November 30, and continue it during that week. Remember, anyone who comments during the Menage is automatically entered into a drawing to win the two books of the next Menage, so invite your friends; the more the merrier!
I'm in. And did you know that I don't live too far from Fall River? For whatever that's worth...

Just requested these two from the library...I'm in.

Care,
Super! And you can tell us about Fall River--I see online there's a Borden B and B there now...
Donna,
Fantastic! I live for these Menages, sad but true.

I just checked out Geary's graphic bio of Trotsky, not even realizing it was he who'd written it. I only checked it out because, y'know, I like reading about Trotsky. It's not exactly true crime, but then again, Trotsky is one of history's great criminals. Does that count?

I may be in lesbrarian's shoes. There are lots of Gearys available at Multnomah County library but Borden may not come in before the end of Nov. I reserved a few others. Hmmm, Powells has a cheap one though.

Tripp,
No worries. I've read a couple other Rick Gearys and you certainly get a feel for them; no matter what you read, his artistic style will be the same, as will the experience of seeing true crime illustrated--which is a bit different, really, than regular true crime. I say, close enough.
Lesbrarian!
Sure, Trotsky, why not. I know he was a criminal, but unfortunately it's one of the gazillion nicknames I use for my cat when she bounces around the house. (She trots, what can I say?) Perhaps if I read the Trotsky book too that will become a nickname I can't use anymore. Huh. Geary gets around on the old true crime subjects, doesn't he?

Do we have to wait??? I just read the Geary last night and I'm going nuts wandering through the floor plan and rehashing the case. Oh, I'm just being a baby. Maybe I'll go out and do extra research on the Borden case before the Menage starts.
Great pick!

Jessica!
That is so funny. If it's any consolation, we don't have to wait long--November 30 is getting scary close.
I would LOVE it if you would do other research on the Borden case. I find it interesting but I've been too lazy to track down more info. I have my own thoughts on the case that make it hard for me to want to find out more about it--you'll hear in the Menage, I'm sure--but I too can't wait to hear everyone's opinions, both of the story and the format.

Yeah, what I really want to do more than discuss Geary's book is to debate Did She or Didn't She? At this moment I can't decide what I think, which *never* happens to me in true crime cases!
