Okay! The votes are in, and the two books for our next Menage discussion are going to be:
1. Tony Horwitz's Blue Latitudes: Boldly Going where Captain Cook Has Gone Before;
and
2. Bill Bryson's In a Sunburned Country.
Thanks to everyone who voted, and I'll be contacting the winner of the two books (drawn from among the participants of the last Menage) a bit later. Why don't we be optimistic and plan to start the discussion on Monday, April 5? Please do invite your friends or consider posting a link to this page on your blogs--the more the merrier!
In other news this morning I'm very excited to have my article about the Best Business Books of 2009 posted at the Library Journal BookSmack! page. (The print article will appear in the March 15 edition of Library Journal.) We had a little more fun with the list this time around--the titles at the end of the article were particularly fun to write up. Please do check it out; it was a rather lively round of business books this year. Of course, most of them were about the continuing financial crisis, and so were depressing as hell, but they were interesting.
It looks like a good time for me to rejoin the menage. I am half way there. I enjoyed In a Sunburned Country and want to read Blue Latitudes. Good choices.
Congratulations. I get the BookSmack in my email I'll look for the article.

Also, I saw Captain Cook's cottage in Melbourne, Australia last fall. It is supposed to be the oldest house on the continent. Unfortunately we were too late in the day to get in. Still, you hear a lot about Cook when you go to Australia and New Zealand. I'd better get the book, so I can take it to PLA.

I've never read anything by Bryson and don't know Horwitz so I'm really looking forward to this. On a TMI note: My sister is in love with this Australian guy and she's threatening to marry him and move there and have all sorts of Australian babies. Ugh. Will Bryson help me actually like this Australian bloke? Hmph. I never A LOT of convincing. I look forward to finding out.
Oh yeah, great biz books article, btw!

Angie,
I'm so glad. I've only read one book by each author so I'm looking forward to expanding my horizons too!
Oh my (re: your sister). I always find it interesting that women not only have to fall head over heels in love, they have to link that pretty early on with having babies. I hope whatever happens it turns out well, and that perhaps the Aussie is rich so he can fly you out to visit your sister often.
And thank you for the kind words on the biz books article!
