Evidently Mr. CR is well-versed in my "why isn't there a male equivalent of the birth control pill" gripe, because over the weekend he said to me, "Hey, there's an article in Wired magazine about male birth control." And so there is:
Well, it's about time, I say. I've always wondered why feminists were so happy with birth control methods that so often carry serious side effects for women, rather than agitating for more methods for men to take care of that on (pun intended) their end.
FINALLY. The world needs this.
But I retain the right to keep my own birth control. Unless I enter a long-term committed and/or married relationship with a man, which between you and me I just don't see happening, I am not going to cede control of my reproduction to anyone else. ("It's okay, dollbaby, we can do this, I've had a vasectomy, there's nothing to worry about!" Suuuuure.)

Well, fair enough, Lesbrarian. But it saddens me that this should be an issue of "ceding control." It should be a partnership of people taking care of their own health and then thinking about others'. But until men actually birth babies I suppose it will continue to be not their concern (or interest).
I just found it VERY educational that (towards the end of the article) interest has been low in women's pill alternatives because it's more lucrative to charge women for a pill they have to take every day. That's a great reason to interfere in a complex cycle, isn't it? Personally I think it's all part and parcel of the big ol' medical conspiracy to not care about women's health issues or care in general--keep making those moneys, women can just deal.

This is one of my favorite gripes as well. Birth control is generally expensive and inconvenient, and I'd like to think we could share that burden a little more equally.

No offense, but if there's a facebook like button, it'll be much easier for me to share.
